Pharmacists "German courses"

Pharmacists

The Ministry has assigned the acceptance of the specialist language examination for pharmacists to the Apothekerkammer Nordrhein. The specialist language knowledge is tested by a three-part language test: Pharmacist-patient interview, documentation, pharmacist-pharmacist interview. The examination lasts 60 minutes and LANES German courses prepares you for your final examination in Duiburg and Düsseldorf .

In the pharmacist-patient interview, the candidate informs and advises a fictitious patient about a drug product, medicine-related problems and possible drug risks in the context of drug delivery. In particular the examinee informs the patient about the proper application, storage and disposal of the drug and informs him/her about possible side effects or drug interactions. When advising, it is important to use simple terms and not to use technical terms. This is followed by a discussion with the examining commission in relation to the drug or the clinical picture or the patient group being treated with the drug. The candidate then completes an observation form for the written examination as information for another colleague.

In the third part of the examination, the pharmacist-pharmacist discussion, the candidate informs another pharmacist about the patient, the side effects and his records of the consultation, whereby technical terms and foreign words are desired in this discussion.

In order to obtain a license to practise medicine in Germany, a number of technical language requirements must be met.

The requirements must be fulfilled:

  • Language certificate on the B2 level
  • Special language examination at the level C1
  • Knowledge test (study of medicine in a non-EU country)

The advanced training concludes with the patient communication test in pharmaceutical terminology. In addition, the training is taught by qualified specialists.

In addition, the prerequisites for participation in this course are a degree in pharmacy and a certificate of language proficiency on level B2.

Examination – Patient communication test

The aim of the patient communication test is to determine whether the specialist language skills required for the profession of a pharmacist are fulfilled.

The test consists of three parts:

In part 1, the examinee writes a report on undesired drug effects with the help of available data of a patient. The subsequent part 2 deals with communication between pharmacists.
In a simulated conversation with another pharmacist, the examinee should prove that he or she can adequately and correctly summarise a case study of a patient. Afterwards, the examinee should prove in the 3rd part of the exam that he or she can have a technically and linguistically correct consultation with a patient. Prerequisites for the examination are a proof of language skills at level B2 as well as the recognition in the approval procedure.

Please check in advance whether your licensing authority recognizes the patient communication test as proof.
